Medieval Montpellier

It doesn't get much more medieval than the Cathedral St Pierre...


with its southern gothic style, massive profile and a dominating portico supported by two amazing circular columns (the rocket looking things)...


The overall effect is of a medieval fortress.

Montpellier is also home to the oldest botanical garden in France - very pretty...


Just down the road from the Jardin is Montpelliers own Arc de Triomphe (gothic church of Sainte-Anne in the background which is now just used to house contemporary art)..
